Kuisman sukuseura

Welcome to visit the web-site of Kuisma Family Society

Kuisma is an old Finnish family name and our roots are in the Karelian Isthmus. After the Second World War Finland was forced to cede about 10 % of its land area to Russia and all people living in this part of the country made an unavoidable move as refugees to the remaining parts of our country. More than 400.000 Finns had to leave their homes, among these about 2.000 members of Kuisma family.

The Kuisma Family Society was founded in the year 2000 and it has been very active during all these years. Espacially we have made a comprehensive genealogy of Kuisma family based on Finnish parish registers. As a result of this work we published in January 2009 a book ‘Kannaksen Kuismat’ telling about history of Kuisma family in Karelia. The book also included a CD-ROM having all Kuisma pedigrees and this first version covered about 80.000 names.

The updated version of Kuisma pedigrees was publised in CD-ROM last autumn in 2010. This 'Kannaksen Kuismat 2' covers now about 120.000 people beginning from the first written information about Thomas Kuisma in Kirvu parish in 1540’s up to babies born in 2010.

Were your forefathers called Kuisma? Do you still use the Kuisma name? Are you interested in your family history? Now you have an excellent opportunity to find your roots. It would be very nice to hear from you, please give me a call or send an e-mail. We also wish you welcome to our annual family reunion, which is arranged every year on the second Sunday of August.

The genealogy of Kuisma family is continuing. You can easily send your family information to our genealogists with a Word-form which is opened here.

Kind Family Regards,

Mr. Markku Kuisma, chairman
